President: Vicki Cusumano
Vicki Cusumano is a senior Music Education major at Hofstra University. Her primary instrument is French Horn and she actively participates in the Hofstra Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Symphony Orchestra as well as various chamber and local ensembles. On campus, she serves as the President of Hofstra’s NYSBDA Chapter, and stays involved with the ACDA, ASTA, and NAFME chapters to expand her knowledge in all aspects of music education. With a passion for inclusivity, Vicki strives to create welcoming and empowering learning environments for all students. In her free time, she can be found upstate enjoying the beautiful mountain view or cruising on the bay. She’s super excited to serve as this year’s President and help guide schools to create their own chapters!
Vice-President: Julie Williams
Julianne (Julie) Williams is a senior Music Education and Music Performance double major with a concentration in flute at the Crane School of Music. She also plays piccolo. She has played in ensembles such as the Crane Wind Ensemble, the Northern Symphonic Winds, and the Crane Flute Ensemble, as well as having experience in both marching and jazz ensembles. She was the president of Crane’s NYSBDA chapter during the 2022-23 academic year and is also a member of Crane NAfME and the Crane Student Association. Besides music, she is passionate about history and linguistics, and loves to try new things and go to new places. She is excited to serve as Vice President of Collegiate NYSBDA!
Treasurer/Secretary: Aidan Carney
Aidan Carney (He/Him/His) is a Sophomore Music Education major at the State University of New York at Fredonia where he studies Tuba under Dr. Christoper Hotaling. Aidan is incredibly dedicated to the growth and continuity of music education community in New York State. At Fredonia, Aidan has played with the Fredonia Wind Ensemble, Fredonia Brass Choir, Fredonia Video Game Orchestra, and the Fredonia Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble; he has also sung with the Fredonia Masterworks and University Choruses. Aidan is a member of the Fredonia Chapters of NAfME and ACDA, serves as the Secretary-Treasurer of Collegiate-NYSBDA, President of the Fredonia NYSBDA Chapter, Treasurer of the Fredonia Video Game Orchestra, Historian of the Friends of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Vice Chair of the Mason Hall Student Leadership Council, and Director of the Lancaster Handbell Choir. In his free time, Aidan enjoys singing with the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus and playing with Lancaster Town Band, composing, and hiking local trails across New York. Aidan is excited to serve Collegiate-NYSBDA in the years to come!
Zone 1 Representative: Jake Miller
Jake Miller is a senior music education student at The State University of New York at Fredonia where he studies tenor trombone with Jonathan Lombardo. Miller is heavily involved in the music education community at a local and state level. Some of his local duties include serving as the Vice President of the Fredonia chapter of NAfME, Music and Arts Director of the Fredonia Video Game Orchestra, and Assistant Director of the Fredonia Trombone Choir. At a state level, Miller serves on the state executive board of C-NYSBDA and C-NAfME as the province one representative. His post-undergraduate plans include pursuing a masters degree in Wind Band Conducting and teaching in a public school in New York State. In his spare time, Jake is the program director of the junior sailing program at Moriches Yacht Club, and loves spending time with his two golden doodles on Long Island. Jake is eager to serve as the Province One representative for C-NAfME and cannot wait to connect with music educators across New York State.
Zone 2 Representative: Gianna Magrino
Gianna Magrino is a Senior Music Education major at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam with concentrations in band and clarinet performance. Originally from Long Island, NY; she started playing the clarinet at age 9. She studies with Prof. Christine Hoerning and Dr. Julianne Kirk Doyle. Gianna is the current Principal Clarinet of the Crane Concert Band. She has also performed with Crane Symphonic Band and Crane Chamber Winds. Gianna has worked with notable conductors such as Dr. Brian K. Doyle, Dr. William L. Lake Jr, and Larry Ballereau. As a young musician, Gianna sang in the St Edwards Childrens Choir starting in 2007. She served as Assistant Choir Director from 2017-2020, and returns to assist the choir while on school breaks. Her goals are to become a band director and general music teacher. She will student teach in the Spring 2024 Semester.
Zone 3 Representative: Noah Merseburg
Noah Merseburg is a junior Music Education major at Hofstra University. His primary instrument is Euphonium. He actively participates in many of the ensembles at Hofstra including the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Symphony Orchestra, and brass ensembles. On campus, he serves as the Secretary of Hofstra’s NYSBDA Chapter, and stays involved with Hofstra’s NAFME chapters and other music organizations. Outside of music, Noah is passionate about food, and loves trying all sorts of cuisines. He looks forward to working with C-NYSBDA and connecting music educators together.
