May 8, 2024

Dear NYSBDA members,

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Symposium in March! If you enjoyed that event, then you are going to love what we are working on for this summer. NYSBDA is proud to partner with Ithaca College and Conn Selmer to present the Conn Selmer Institute Northeast. This will happen at Ithaca College on August 13-15, 2024. We have worked with our partners to create an experience that builds upon the best elements of the former NYSSMA Summer Conference in a stunningly beautiful location with nationally recognized names in our field. Some of the highlights will include:

  • A keynote address by Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser
  • Directors’ Band led by Dr. Paula Crider
  • Dozens of clinics by world-class presenters
  • An optional evening excursion to Bright Leaf Vineyards, open to families
  • Time in the beautiful Finger Lakes region
  • Opportunities to connect with friends and colleagues from throughout New York and beyond!

We will provide professional development certification for every attendee. And this event is bigger than NYSBDA: it is a regional conference, so invite your New York friends who are not (yet) NYSBDA members, and your friends from out of state as well! The more, the merrier. Registration is $129 for educators and administrators, and $35 for college students. Look for more information to come in next month’s Band Stand. In the meantime, I’ve appended a flyer here – you’ll recognize Dr. Tim in the foreground, with (among others) our 2024 Symposium Keynote, Dr. Matthew Arau, in the background! You can also look for event information at https://csi.connselmer.com/csi/northeast, or register now at https://registration.socio.events/e/northeastcsi.

I look forward to seeing you there. I will be at every moment of the conference, with plans to stick around for a long weekend afterwards to enjoy all Finger Lakes has to offer with my family!

Best wishes for the rest of the school year, and THANK YOU for all you do for our students!
